Battle of the bands

Idea

Host a showcase of local musical talent where budding artists and bands are given the opportunity to play and be celebrated in front of their community. Each band is given a time slot, bearing in mind that there needs to be time in between each to swap over the equipment (e.g. guitars). If there are lots of bands wishing to take part then their time needs to be limited or the event could be spread out over more than one day. There could be judges who award point on various categories (including audience applause!) and select a winner. 

Resources 

Prize for the winner (could be a donation, such as time at a local music studio) 

Musical ‘back-line’ (e.g. PA system for microphones, drum kit, and possibly a bass amp) 

If outdoors: generator, and large gazebo or small marquee if outdoors (electrical equipment needs to be undercover) 

Key Requirements 

Someone in whom people have confidence with regards technical operations (e.g. ensuring there is a big enough power supply and doing a sound check with a live band) 

Community centre, faith building, outdoor green space. The more accessible and used by a cross-section of the community the better.
